Following on from my blog earlier in the year about the rising emergence of Cloud Business Intelligence (BI) solutions, it’s really exciting that AgilityWorks has partnered with Birst, the number 1 cloud BI vendor, to deliver truly agile enterprise analytics through an agile BI platform and agile delivery methods.
We have two events running soon that discuss the Birst partnership, the value of Birst and a showcase of the Birst solution itself. Check details of the webinar here and our Data to Insights Forum here.
A number of customers we work with and speak to want to embrace and realise the benefits of an agile methodology for their business intelligence and analytics content. A real issue for them in fully embracing agile is the legacy enterprise BI systems that they deliver and deploy their BI content through. An agile BI platform is vital in supporting an organisation in going agile for BI (alongside the need to implement the agile practices and methodologies along with the need to have key buy in from all stakeholders).
Legacy BI platforms offer the scalability, support and governance for enterprise analytics that IT departments necessitate (in terms of both data and visualisation platforms) but the governance, ease of rapid development and iterations in these tools can sometimes be difficult. This is most typically in the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) system where only a subset of the full organisational data resides and is restricted to very structured data models which, quite rightly, require very controlled change management. However, when business users have requirements which need new elements to be added/changed to the EDW data model (or have the need to merge EDW data with other sources of data) the elongated time taken to make this happen from both a process and development perspective can devalue the benefit of the change itself and in a lot of cases forces the user to develop a local solution in Excel or a point BI solution.
The Birst BI solution gives customers a real opportunity to implement agile BI through its two tiered data architecture. You can complement your existing EDW data by using the Birst cloud data warehouse, sourcing data from your EDW layer into Birst, then allowing the possibility within Birst to offer an additional modelling layer - joining, merging and complementing it with additional data directly from a multitude of other business sources (file, other systems both on-premise and cloud) to offer a complete view of business data. The Birst solution still satisfies the requirements of IT departments in terms of enterprise scalability, but offers a platform to develop solutions in an agile manner without impacting on the governance on the existing EDW layer.
Using Birst on top of existing BI platform helps deliver new capability to the business in an agile way, which can be used for a specific line of business or business area to begin with. Be sure to join our Birst events mentioned at the start of this blog to understand how Birst and AgilityWorks can benefit your business, including a Birst demo to showcase both the data modelling and visualisation aspects of the solution.
