As a company, AgilityWorks has continually displayed support for a range of national and international charities - however, there is always more that can be done! Therefore, we are happy to announce that in 2018 we have chosen four fantastic charities (voted for by our staff) to focus our efforts upon until the end of 2019! Although AgilityWorks’ Head Quarters are based in Oxford, in the U.K, the rest of our employees work on projects on a national and international level, with offices in Portugal and India. Therefore, we believed that in order to correspond with our global outlook we wanted to support a range of charities from local, national to international level. AgilityWorks will be hosting a range of events that will not only raise awareness for the fantastic work each of our chosen charities provide, but also to raise money in order to help fund their efforts.

Which four charities have we chosen to support?

Oxfordshire Mind

“Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling. We believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’ll listen, give you support and advice, and fight your corner.”

Mind is a mental health organization which offers support and guidance for people suffering with mental illness. They are a charity which focusses heavily on education, offering detailed information about a variation of mental illnesses on their website which can then be used in order to cope with mental health issues, or inform the general public on how to help others suffering with their mental health. Not only do they do this, but they also campaign to improve the awareness of mental health and the quality of services available to those who are facing a difficulty with their own. Because of Mind, as a company we have become increasingly aware of the fact that in the U.K alone, a staggering 1 in 4 people experience problems with their mental health every year, with 1 in 6 people reportedly experiencing a common metal health problem (such as anxiety and depression) every week. Our staff here at AgilityWorks believe that investing in a charity like Mind would be an investment for us too and that charities such as Mind provide invaluable support for those suffering with mental illness.

Macmillan Cancer Support

“At Macmillan, we know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything. So we’ll help you find your best way through. From advice about money and work, to someone who’ll listen if you just want to talk, we’re here when you need us most.”

Macmillan Cancer Support are a charity which provide support for cancer sufferers and their families and friends, from the moment of diagnosis, during treatment, and for life afterwards. The work of one Macmillan Nurse can provide up to 157 patients with pastoral care, and with an average of 2.5million people in the UK being diagnosed with cancer, it is clear to see just how valuable their work is. We chose this charity not only because of the fantastic work they do, but also because we too stand for our strength in working as a team and in building strong relationships with our colleagues, in order to understand the individual needs and requirements of our staff, in order to excel as a business. We also believe in the power of communication and collaboration and Macmillan is an amazing example of the power of building support networks.

Doctors Without Borders

“Our medical teams act fast to save people’s lives in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics. We go where we are needed most.”

Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontiers) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization which currently has medical projects running in over 70 countries around the world. This charitable organization provides neutral medical aid to a range of countries, often those in the wake of conflict, natural disasters or an epidemic. It also works to create better medical services in areas where access to clinics or the availability of ambulances or treatment programs are scarce, with projects running in certain countries for decades. We are proud to support a charity that is as mobile as Doctors Without Borders as we too believe in building a supportive infrastructure for our colleagues.

Isha Vidhya

“Isha Vidhya works for the economic and social empowerment of rural children in the villages across the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India.Through this effort, the foundation is committed to raising the level of education and literacy in rural India, helping disadvantaged children realise their full potential and actively supporting the promotion of education among young females."

Isha Vidyha is a charity which is committed to improving the levels of literacy and education in rural India. At current, Isha Vidhya runs 9 schools which caters to the needs of over 7,158 students. Considering the fact that over 75% of India’s population live in areas which lack adequate access to education, and over 40% of 7-9 year olds cannot read at a basic level, or cannot count above 10, the work that Isha Vidyha is doing is invaluable. This charity gained a high number of nominations from our team in India and therefore we decided to support Isha Vidyha as our fourth charity!

What We Are Doing to Help?

We are extremely excited to be supporting these four charities, as we believe they not only fit with our values as a company, but they also inspire us to create equally fantastic support structures for our colleagues here at AgilityWorks. In the next two years we aim to provide extensive support to these charities, through a range of methods. The following dates are just the beginning of what is to come!

  • Macmillan Cancer Support: This Friday 28th September 2018 we are hosting a coffee morning, where we will be selling a range of baked goods made by us, to our Oxford office neighbours! All of the proceeds made today will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.
  • Oxfordshire Mind: On Friday 19th October 2018, following on from World Mental Health Day (10th October), we will be hosting an information afternoon where we will be joined by a representative from the charity who will talk about the work they do, as well as giving more information on mental health and what we can do to help improve that of ourselves and our colleagues.
  • Doctors Without Borders: On Friday 16th November, we will be holding a virtual quiz hosted by the People Council in order to show our support of Doctors Without Borders. We decided to make this an international quiz, so it is open to ALL AgilityWorks employees, and all proceeds collected by those taking part in the quiz will go towards the incredible work done by this organization.
  • Issa Vidhya: Our team in India will be running local events in support of Isha Vidhya - further details and dates to follow! All proceeds will to go to Isha Vidhya.
